Kroos: It was only Madrid
other club except Real Madrid following his €25 million (R360 million)
move from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The German World Cup winner was presented with his new number 8 shirt at the Bernabeu on Thursday.
“Real Madrid is the best club there is and it is a step more than Bayern,” the 24-year-old told his club’s official website.
“I didn’t need more options. This club is fantastic and it’s a great challenge to win titles here.
“Were in agreement immediately and I’m delighted to be here.”
Kroos said he had his sights set solely on joining Los Blancos, as he looked for a new adventure in his career.
“From beginning it was obvious I was going to leave Bayern, and I
wanted to go to Real Madrid, no other team,” the midfielder revealed.
“I’ve been at Bayern for a long time and won everything so I thought it would be good to move to a new direction.”
A multiple League and European Cup champion, Kroos said he wishes to
continue winning titles under Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid outfit.
“Only one thing was acceptable at Bayern: winning trophies,” he said.
“When I arrived here I immediately knew the same thing applies. I
know that I’ve joined a highly successful club and I’m going to do
everything in my power to ensure that success continues.
“Winning trophies with this team is an exciting challenge for me. My target is to win every competition.”
Kroos said he had received advice from compatriot and new club team
mate Sami Khedira, who may be on his way out of the Spanish giants.
“I spoke to Sami about the club,” Kroos revealed.
“Everything he said was positive. He reassured me it was a good decision.
“What happens in the future, that’s not for me to say, that’s for Real Madrid and Sami.”
Real Madrid begin their preseason preparations with a club friendly against Italian outfit Inter Milan in California on 27 July.
