Manchester City forced to consider Yaya Toure options

Yaya Toure’s future has been perhaps one of the most surprising transfer sagas of the past few weeks.
Firstly, the player’s agent spoke out about his client’s discontent
that Yaya had not received a birthday cake on his birthday nor a
handshake from the club’s officials, only for videos to be shown online
of City doing both of the acts complained of.
Toure has further spoken out about his anger that the club supposedly
refused him the opportunity to attend to his dying brother, instead
forcing the player to attend a celebratory match against Al-Ain in Abu
Dhabi.
Uncertain Times
All of this follows Toure’s desire to play for Paris
Saint-Germain, a comment which upset more than just a couple of City
fans. It is therefore clear that Toure wants to leave the club he has
won no fewer than 5 trophies with to move onto pastures new, but the
question remains as to whether City would be willing to sell one of
their prized assets.
As a player, Toure is commonly regarded as the most complete
midfielder, with his powerful running complemented by strong passing,
shooting and tackling displays.
Toure is already written into the Etihad’s cult law, scoring the goal
that won the club their first major trophy in 35 years. It is no
surprise that Toure is a fan favourite at the club, especially following
his impressive displays over the past few seasons, with his showings in
the 2013/2014 season perhaps unfortunate not to receive an accolade of
some sorts.
Irreplaceable?
Toure contributes to the team in numerous ways, with his electrifying
breaks from midfield effective against all types of opposition, which
has helped Toure score 38 goals for the Manchester club and contribute
numerous assists, and made him a pivotal cog in the City blueprint.
Yaya’s contributions are not however limited to the pitch. As a
player, Toure is an influence in the dressing room and the sale of the
Ivorian would be a huge loss to not only the squad, but the club as a
whole.
However, despite Toure’s contribution to the first team, the midfielder is ageing having recently celebrated his 31st birthday.
City may therefore want to look to the future, a plan the corporate
giants Txiki berigistain and Ferran Sorriano are eager to implement.
The near completion of the signing of Fernando Roges from FC Porto
and the club’s interest in Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba suggest that
City are already looking for the talisman’s successor. Academy prospects
Seko Fofana and Emyr Huws, the earlier who is referred to as the clubs
next Yaya, further show how City may be more than prepared to let the
player leave if his heart lies elsewhere.
Yaya’s market value?
Selling Toure would generate a transfer fee of around £20-30
million and wipe over £200,000 a week off the club’s wage bill which
would help the club comply with UEFAs FFP regulations, and allow the
club to invest in a squad of talented players. After all, football is a
team game and not about the individuals.
Toure is undisputedly one of the worlds best players and has a major
influence on the current Manchester City team. However despite his
talents, an ageing midfielder who does not want to play for the club may
be dispensable, especially as City have the funds to sign a talented
youngster as his replacement. City may therefore choose to sell the
Ivorian this summer or hold on to one of their key players, yet the jury
is still out as to whether this would be a wise move or not.
