Combative midfielder Cheick Tiote has reportedly signalled his intention to leave Newcastle United, according to the Telegraph.
Tiote’s reluctance to remain at the heart of Newcastle’s midfield
will surely come as a blow to his beleaguered boss Alan Pardew, who has
come under severe fire from fans for a series of below-par performances
by his Newcastle side throughout 2014.
Various clubs, including Arsenal were reported to be in for the
want-away midfielder, with Arsene Wenger keen on the Ivorian shoring up
his midfield in the summer transfer window. Despite his apparent
interest, no move was forthcoming.
Tiote, 28, had this to say about his Newcastle future: “I want to leave,” he told media in Ivory Coast.
“I’ve spent four years with Newcastle and I think I’ve reached the
stage where it’s maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge.
“I will focus on the upcoming games and see what happens between now
and December but it is true there was contact for me in the summer from
Arsenal and also from a club in Russia. I would prefer to stay in
