Nigeria
has displaced South Africa as the largest economy in Africa.
The
country’s revised nominal GDP figures just released now stands at $453.9m,
higher than that of south Africa which is $384.3m.
The
country also presently ranks the 26th biggest economy in the world .
The services
sector, particularly telecommunications is the main driver of the new gdp figures
contributing more than agriculture which was once the main driver and remains
the largest employer of labour.
Findings
from the rebasing exercise show the economy is gradually becoming more service
driven like Thailand, Malaysia and Egypt.
